The turn is the hard part
Sand Mountain lies along U.S. 50 roughly 25 miles southeast of Fallon. Coming from Fallon the entrance is a left turn across oncoming traffic, and there is no left-turn lane. You will be slowing a loaded rig in a live highway lane while somebody closes on you from behind. Signal early, watch your mirrors, and give following traffic time to work out what is happening. This is the most dangerous thirty seconds of the trip and it happens before you touch sand.
